AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) is one of the most confusing things for people when picking out a new unit. AFUE can be broken down as, if you are looking at buying a 96% AFUE rated furnace it will return 96% of the fuel heat used in its operation. The minimum rating starts out at 80% and can get to as high as 98% in some models. What is right for you will depend on each homes individual heating needs and the financial goals you are trying to achieve with your new purchase.
Sometimes the amount you save on your fuel bill doesn’t justify the amount paid for a higher efficiency unit and the costs associated with it. If you are looking at an 80% AFUE system, that is still a good number. It may not be the best efficiency rating but these furnaces will get the job done at a lower upfront cost. As you climb the efficiency scale there will be a higher cost of equipment and installation attached to each step up in AFUE. We will be there with you every step of the way.
